Data Collection of the 2022 Population Census

The data collection of the 2022 Population Census began on August 1st and it is scheduled to finish in October. However, the outcome was postponed to December 1st, 2022 in the municipalities that do not complete it by October.

During the data collection, the IBGE enumerators visit all the households in Brazil. In the phase in which the enumeration areas are recognized, the IBGE maps the characteristics of the neighborhood of the housing units by means of the surroundings questionnaire. The 2022 Urban Survey of the Surroundings of the Housing Units will raise information on the capacity of circulation and paving of thoroughfares; public lighting; road infrastructure; urban mobility and accessibility; rainwater drainage and forestation. Areas of traditional population and communities (PCTs) are an exception, as the surroundings survey will be carried out after the household collection, due to specific approach procedures in these territories.

In the household collection, the enumerators will use a vest, cap, badge and a handheld computer to collect the information through a direct interview with questions listed as a questionnaire to be filled in the handheld computer. It will be also possible to answer the questionnaire through the Internet or telephone.

All the Brazilian households will be visited and any resident above 12 years, able to provide answers to the questionnaire´s questions, might respond to the enumerators on behalf of the other residents of that household.

The enumerators will use a uniform, will respect the health and safety protocols in force during the data collection and can have their identifications checked on the respondendo.ibge.gov.br webiste or through the telephone 0800 721 81 81 for free.
