Paquetá Island Test (2021)
Between September 6 and 24 of 2021, IBGE agents visited all households on Ilha de Paquetá (Paquetá Island), Rio de Janeiro, to conduct a preparatory test for the 2022 Population Census. The island was chosen because of the high immunization status of the population, since the two doses of coronavirus vaccine had already been administered.
The main objectives of the census test were to evaluate the applications and systems developed specifically for the Census, in order to improve them and correct any flaws for the census operation that takes place in 2022 all over the country. Additionally, the test was the first field simultaneous application of the three data collection modes: in person, by internet and by telephone.
The test began by registering information about the surroundings, from September 1st to 3rd, 2021. At this stage, IBGE agents walked around the island, its streets, squares, observing and recording items such as the existence of street lighting, access ramps for wheelchair users, among other aspects.
The entire process was carried out safely, in accordance with local health protocols, including the use of masks and face shields worn by enumerators.
As a final part of the 2022 Census test in Paquetá, the Post-Enumeration Survey (PPE) was also carried out to assess the coverage and quality of data collected in the Census. This stage began during the Census test collection phase and went on until October 30, 2021.
