Understanding our people and our way of living in detail is extremely important to both the government and society. The results obtained from a Population Census can provide an accurate and comprehensive picture of a country.

The Population Census produces updated and precise information of fundamental importance for the development and implementation of public policies and for informed investment decisions, in both public and private spheres. In addition to that, self-knowledge enables society to effectively carry out timely initiatives and adequately plan its future.

Portraying this Brazil entering a new decade is quite a challenge to the IBGE. What is the size of the Brazilian population? What are their living conditions? How does the population spread throughout the territory? What is the level of schooling of our children and youngsters? What are the working conditions and income of the population? Questions like these and many others will be answered by the Population Census that the IBGE will carry out in 2022.
