The 2022 Population Census will be the biggest census operation ever organized in the country. Next you will find some information on the real size of the task and the complexity involved in the conduction of the 2022 Census.

Population
More than 215 million residents, approximately 75 million addresses to be visited, 5,570 municipalities.

Staff involved
Possibly more than 210 thousand people hired, as temporary workers, in the areas of data collection, supervision, technical-administrative support and verification of the census results.

Work structure
Data collection of the Population Census in 2022 is expected to visit about 75 million housing units to enumerate more than 215 million residents in the 5,570 Brazilian cities (5,568 municipalities, the Federal District and the District of Fernando de Noronha).

To give support to this operation, the IBGE will arrange a work structure with more than 210 workers, separated into multidisciplinary teams distributed all over the National Territory and managed by civil servants from the Institute.

A total of 6,040 Data Collection Units, 583 Area Departments, and 1,444 Subarea Departments must be implemented in the 27 State Branches and in more than 450,000 enumeration areas all over the Brazilian territory.

Maps
5570 municipal maps, 30,000 maps of cities, villages and localities and more than 420,000 digital and printed files of the enumeration areas will be used to guide enumerators in their working area.

Technology
The IBGE will use technology in the 2022 Population Census, in order to update the process of collection and transmission of information about the Brazilian population.

The devices used by enumerators and supervisors (DCMs and tablets) will be equipped with 3G and 4G signals. That will allow enumerators to send by Internet the data collected, in real time, to the system of the Institute.

There will also be real time digital management of the enumerators all over the national territory, the use of “cloud” services on the Internet for support in communication and data traffic and new high performance data centers.

About 211 thousand appliances, DMCs and Tablets, used in the Census, besides the 9,5 thousand laptops employed as tools in data collection units.
