The IBGE Superintendence in Amazonas is striving for reaching the population not yet enumerated in the state. Last week, between December 6 and 8, the 2022 Census Coordination of Dissemination and the Coordination of Human Resources joined to make the IBGE present in one of the largest shopping malls in the capital of the state, Manaus, located in the center-south of the city. The area was strategically selected for the action, as it has condominiums and higher percentages of households still to be enumerated in the enumeration areas.

During the event, people could know more about the 2022 Census through messages in displays and leaflets provided, as well as approach one of the IBGE servants to clear doubts or schedule the best date and time for the enumerator to carry out the interview with them, in case their households are not yet enumerated. The IBGE servants stayed on duty in the Census stand in the afternoon and night shifts, when shoppings have more movement.

Support “of millions” from shopping mall

To carry out the event in the shopping mall, the Census Coordination of Dissemination in Amazonas sent a letter requesting some space to disseminate the operation in Manauara Shopping. The shopping mall not only provided a space, but also a stand customized by the mall team with displays, advertising cubes, tables and chairs.

The customized space created awareness in the mall´s clients and it was ideal for the event, as it was located in one of the major spots in the shopping mall, in front of a busy store and near the Christmas space, a space very sought-after by picture takers. Isa Lucena, the marketing manager of Manauara Shopping, highlighted “the pleasure for supporting such an important campaign”.

The first day of the event in the shopping mall matched the day of the Fourth Assessment of the 2022 Census. The Coordination of Dissemination decided to summon the press for a press conference to talk about the current numbers of the data collection and take the opportunity to disseminate the event in the shopping mall. The press conference attracted most of the media, with six TV stations, a news site and two Internet portals. At the time, Jessé Miranda, the area coordinator, attended the press conference.

Operation looking for those not enumerated

Amazonas is getting closer to the end of the data collection of the 2022 Census, though there is nearly 10-15% of the population to be enumerated, a major challenge for the end of the year. Then the focus of the event in the shopping mall was to create awareness in these people that the Census is still underway and invite them to approach the IBGE servants to inform their complete names, telephone, address and best date and time for the interview, streamlining the work of the enumerators.

Having registered the residents, the next step for the technical coordination is to check whether their households were not enumerated yet and then pass the case on to the respective area and sub-area coordinators to proceed to interview them.
