SES-MA maintains permanent contact with municipal offices aiming at sustaining and improving partnerships towards the census data collection.

Last Wednesday, November 16, a team of the IBGE Superintendence in Maranhão, led by Marcelo Melo, participated in a fruitful meeting towards the 2022 Population Census.

The meeting was held at the Reis Perdigão Auditorium, located at the De La Ravardière Palace, the São Luís City Hall, and was conducted by Mayor Eduardo Braide, who was accompanied by his secretaries and heads of municipal offices.

The mayor summoned his team to listen the information about the progress of the data collection in São Luís, difficulties found and solutions to overcome challenges. The call filled the auditorium with public officers from several secretariats and municipal offices.

The meeting was opened by Mayor Eduardo Braide, who called his secretaries and heads of offices, as well as their teams, to engage in the dissemination of the 2022 Census and support the good progress of the data collection.

Then Marcelo Melo, the IBGE Superintendent in Maranhão, explained the importance of strengthening the partnership between SES-MA and São Luís City Hall aiming at sustaining the progress of the data collection and at developing joint solutions for existing challenges.

Servant Elcylene Mendes made a detailed presentation about the progress of the data collection and difficulties found. One of the major challenges has been the application of questionnaires in condominiums, especially those located in higher-income areas.

In the end of the presentation those present made suggestions on the progress of the data collection. It was very productive, as doubts were clarified and an important support was gotten to overcome the challenges.

Partnership to help the Census in places difficult to access

One of the results of the meeting was the participation of the Civil Defense of São Luís, under the Municipal Secretariat of Security with Citizenship (SEMUSC), in joining enumerators in risk areas, like households located in hillsides and ravines.

On November 18, two days after the meeting, a team of the Civil Defense of São Luís joined an enumerator and other servants in the neighborhood of Salinas do Sacavém. It is a locality with households in risk areas difficult to access.

Importance of engaging municipal offices

Mayor Eduardo Braide declared that he will work as a census influencer so that the population is conscious of receiving IBGE enumerators well. After the meeting in the auditorium, Braide received the IBGE servants in his office to assess the perception of the meeting and reiterate his support to the Census work.

He will also engage himself so his secretaries and heads of offices provide complete assistance to the Census within the scope of each role. A decision already in place is the wide dissemination of the census operation in municipal schools, counting with the active participation of Secretary Caroline Marques Salgado. Another action underway is affixing Census displays in bus terminals and inside the buses of the system of urban collective transportation of the municipality. This action is coordinated by the Municipal Office of Traffic and Transportation (SMTT), headed by Diogo Furtado.

SES-MA will maintain an agenda of meetings with municipal offices, aiming at operationalizing significant actions to boost the Census data collection.
