In the morning of Tuesday (April 5, 2022), the IBGE State Unit in Mato Grosso carried out the 1st Census Planning and Monitoring Meeting (REPAC) with several authorities in the Licínio Monteiro Auditorium of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso. The President of the IBGE, Eduardo Rios Neto, participated in the event.
In his speech, Rios Neto highlighted the IBGE actions during the pandemic, including the development of PNAD Covid (Continuous National Household Sample Survey Covid), which lasted seven months and was the first survey to show that the emergency aid changed income distribution, as well as the importance of carrying out the Census. “The Census is the largest civil operation a nation can have, especially in a country with continental dimensions like Brazil. We have in Brazil 200 thousand temporary workers who become IBGE personnel overnight.
The President explained about the Census budget and made clear that he counts with the support of partner institutions. “The Census endeavor involves the three power spheres, because the Census does not belong to the IBGE, but rather to the society.” He also reminded that the IBGE will capture the coordinates of all the households in Brazil.
The President of the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso, Eduardo Botelho, stated that everyone should be involved in the Census and thanked the visit of the President of the IBGE and his support. “The importance you are giving to Mato Grosso. The first state you are coming [to participate in the state REPAC]. So, on behalf of the Parliament and of the Mato Grosso people, we thank you very much,” said him.
“We are aimless without the Census. The Census is very important for the government to develop its policies and to make its assessments, especially in the long term. It is impossible to plan if you do not know your population, your people, the needs, and the economic and social conditions in which the people live. Therefore, I have no doubt that the Census is key to us,” concluded Botelho.
Luis Alberto Nespolo, President of Ager-MT (State Regulation Agency for Conceded Public Services), represented the Governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes, praised the IBGE and greeted President Eduardo Rios Neto: “I would like to say that Ager is your client and that it is fortunate for working with your team in the logistic flows within the state in order to get good results from its poles. We are developing a fantastic joint work. I always praised the IBGE, in the private life, in the academic life and now in the public life,” tells him.
The Census Operational Coordinator in Mato Grosso, Francisco Vieira da Silva, explained the objectives of the REPAC and provided information related to data collection in Mato Grosso, areas and sub-areas in the state, indigenous and quilombola areas, confidentiality of the statistical information, territorial base, teams, data collection stations and training of new personnel.
The head of the IBGE State Unit in Mato Grosso, Millane Chaves, the President of the IPDU (Institute of Urban Development and Planning), Márcio Puga, the President of the AMM (Association of the Municipalities of Mato Grosso), Neurilan Fraga, and the Assistant Secretary of Planning and Management of Public Policies (SEPLAG), Sandro Brandão, were the other authorities present.
