The results of the National Test of the Population Census in Tocantins were released in the morning of Thursday, March 17, in the headquarters of the State Unit, in Palmas. The event counted with the presence of the mayor of Lajeado, the enumerated municipality, Antônio Luiz Bandeira Júnior, government secretaries, IBGE servants and the press.

Paulo Ricardo Amaral, head of the UE-TO, stated that the IBGE praises the technical-scientific rigor of the information, thus the operation in the municipality. “The test is key for the optimal use of the Census. Moreover, it is fundamental to pinpoint risks and failures that could happen in the Census. The test was a success, resulting from a long-term planning and from the effective cooperation of the residents and the administration of Lajeado,” stated him.

According to the mayor, the new data allow the development of more assertive public policies. “Today was a very important day, since we got up-to-date figures and data required to build and plan public policies in all the sectors, like education, health, security, labor and social actions. It is a survey that brings key knowledge about our population,” said him.

In the end of the presentation of the results, the head of the UE-TO gave a plaque to the mayor of Lajeado as a way to recognize all the support provided by the partnership. Júnior Bandeira also thanked the IBGE and volunteered to cooperate in the official Census.

Lajeado
Located between Lajeado Mountain and Tocantins River, the charming city is known as a neighbor of the capital, Palmas, and for the lush of its natural landscape. The beautiful scenario gained new forms when the dam of the Luís Eduardo Magalhães hydroelectric power plant was built in the early 2000s. Extending for 180 kilometers, the lake transformed the landscape of the Tocantins River, but provided Lajeado with an engineering work that completes the frame that surrounds the city.

Lajeado was selected for the Census test due to the strategic localization and unique characteristics. Compared with the 2010 Census, the data showed a growth of 18.6% in the population, changing from 2,773 to 3,289 inhabitants. The 12 enumerators visited 2,068 addresses in the municipality, of which 1,104 were permanently occupied households. Of the total number of persons enumerated, 1,716 were men (52.2%) and 1,573, women (47.8%). The senior population, aged 60 years and over, amounted to 496 persons (15.1%). The average number of residents per household stayed at 3.02.
