On Thursday (17), the IBGE director of Surveys, Cimar Azeredo Pereira, and the head of the State Unit in Paraná, Sinval Dias dos Santos, met the technical director and the coordinator of the Economic Core of the Brazilian National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), Bruno Lucchi and Renato Conchon, to request support for the 2022 Census and discuss a number of joint actions towards the agricultural sector.

The support of the CNA System is important for the dissemination of the Census, due to its capillarity. The operation aims at collecting information in nearly 71 million Brazilian households to portray Brazil based on data like the size of the population, income, schooling and other subjects. The 2022 Census will be collected by nearly 180 thousand IBGE enumerators and will start in August.

The IBGE proposed the Confederation to guide the rural unions to mobilize rural producers about the importance of answering the questionnaires, as well as to guide them about the work of the enumerators and the relevance of the 2022 Population Census.

Another point discussed were the technical partnerships to develop studies and surveys aimed at agriculture. Both institutions plan to sign a technical cooperation agreement towards this end. Among the surveys proposed by the CNA, a study on the Brazilian rural middle class and the preparation of the next Census of Agriculture, which should be carried out in 2024, with detailed information about the rural area.

In this context, the idea would be to discuss points like the revision of the questionnaires and the participation of the CNA in the advisory board that deals with this subject. The CNA contributed with the IBGE in the preparation of the 2017 Census of Agriculture, by providing information on the sector and by mobilizing rural producers to answer the enumerators´ questionnaires.
