Since yesterday (4), the population of Lagoinha do Piauí is facing a different movement in the streets: they are the IBGE technicians visiting all the houses. Using their vests and protection equipment against Covid-19, they are interviewing the residents. The reason behind this is that the municipality was selected to host the dress rehearsal of the 2022 Population Census in Piauí.

Nine enumerators are covering the entire urban and rural areas of the municipality, which has nearly 67 km² of extension. Lagoinha do Piauí is nearly 90 km south of the capital, Teresina. It is one of the smallest cities in Piauí in terms of population - it had 2,656 inhabitants in the last Census, in 2010. At that time, the municipality had 775 households. 

The dress rehearsal will be held in November and December. The Urban Survey of the Surroundings of the Housing Units was held on November 3-4. Still on November 4, the data began to be collected in the households, which should last nearly two weeks. The remaining period should be used by procedures of supervision and quality assessment.

“The dress rehearsal is an exercise for the Census activities that will be carried out in 2022, allowing the IBGE technicians to practice the activities of data collection, equipment handling, applicability of management systems, report analysis and transportation logistics, among other procedures,” explains Ranieri Leite, Census operational coordinator in Piauí

Professionals involved in the data collection use masks, respecting the security protocols against the pandemic. Data from the government of Piauí point out that nearly 80% of the population of Lagoinha do Piauí already took the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 and that more than 55% of the residents are completed immunized.
