As a new step of the preparation for the 2022 Census, the UE-SC held a meeting in September with higher education institutions in Santa Catarina. Carried out off-site and on-site, the meeting was held in the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Besides the UFSC, the Federal University of the Southern Frontier (UFFS), the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC) and the Santa Catarina Federal Institute (IFC) were also represented.
On the IBGE side, the participants were Roberto Kern Gomes, head of the UE-SC, Dárcio Francisco Borges, Census training coordinator, Fabiano Rodolfo, Census operational coordinator, and Sueni dos Santos, SDI´s coordinator.

Gomes highlighted the importance of the census operation, explaining that the Census is the structuring axis of the IBGE´s sample surveys and its most complete survey. The 2022 Population Census will allow, for example, to size recent phenomenons like the immigration of Haitians and Venezuelans. In Santa Catarina, it will also be an opportunity to measure a relevant domestic immigration from Pará.

The evolution of the age pyramid, added Gomes, is another fundamental scenario brought by the Census results. As these results anchor so much knowledge, the farther from the 2010 Census, the farther we are from that anchor and the greater the possibility of biasing other indicators surveyed. Concerning the 2022 Census operation, the head of the UE-SC specifically highlighted the challenge of enumerators visiting households when we consider receiving calls instead of texts invasive.

The universities will be major partners of the IBGE in the next Census, contributing both with rooms for data collections stations and with the dissemination of selection processes, for example. According to Gomes, aligning with the credibility of the universities will be another benefit for the census operation.
In the end of the meeting, work groups were created in the four institutions. One of them is in charge of quickly determining the amount of rooms available in the campuses and, another group, of streamlining the dissemination of the Census.
