Secretariat of Public Security of Piauí will support the IBGE during the Census

Looking for support to carry out the 2022 Population Census, servants of the UE-PI met the secretary of Public Security of Piauí and his team this Tuesday (26). During the meeting, preventive actions and actions to mitigate damage were discussed, considering the potential occurrence of crimes against IBGE technicians in the field.

José Tavares, UE-PI´s manager of Planning and Management, highlighted that the IBGE visits all the Brazilian households during the Population Census. In Piauí, residents of nearly 900 thousand housing units will be interviewed by enumerators. Pedro Andrade, technical coordinator of the Population Census in Piauí, presented the dynamics of the work of the data collection teams and the material used to identify the census servants.

Colonel Rubens Pereira guaranteed the support to the IBGE and emphasized the relevance of the census operation. “The Census is a strategic action, an important endeavor that cannot be postponed anymore,” stated him. “We will cooperate within our possibilities and with the logistics that we have, so that people who will capture the information have a minimal safety,” highlighted him.

One of the ways of cooperation proposed in the meeting was a customized map with data on crime by enumeration area. In addition, the possibility of teams of the Military Police patrolling regions with security restrictions during the visit of enumerators was discussed. The experts of the Secretariat of Public Security of Piauí (SSP/PI) also pointed out some preventive actions that can be adopted by the IBGE.

The following IBGE representatives were also present: Eyder Mendes, coordinator of Census Dissemination, and Camila de Oliveira, a census agent of Journalism. On the SSP/PI side, there were also: deputy Carlos César, director of Strategic Intelligence, and deputy João Marcelo, coordinator of the Statistical Core.
