Started in September, the new cycle of the Census Planning and Monitoring Meetings (REPACs) was successfully held in the first week of October in Joinville, involving public authorities and extensive impact on the media.

A previous cycle of REPACs was completed in 2020 - before the date originally scheduled for the Census - in 295 municipalities of Santa Catarina. With the postponement to 2022, a new cycle was started. The meetings contribute to a more effective Census operation.

Joinville is the most populous municipality of Santa Catarina, having exceeded 600 thousand people (604,708) according to the population estimates for 2021.

The REPAC in Joinville, one of the first in the new cycle, occurred in the City Hall, with the presence of the mayor, Adriano Silva, vice-mayor, Rejane Gambin, municipal secretaries, city counselors and representatives from universities, Military Police and class entities.

Altogether, nearly 20 media vehicles reverberated the meeting, like six AM and FM radios, five TV channels, including the major stations in the state, as well as local newspapers and portals. “It was a good example of a good REPAC, how we should make a good event about census operations,” summarizes Roberto Kern Gomes, head of the UE-SC.

The stories not only emphasized the REPACs, but also how close is the 2022 Census, its relevance and preparatory work involved in the operation, including the selection processes. The dissemination in the media is key to raise awareness for job positions, which will add up to more than 7 thousand in Santa Catarina, more than 600 of them in Joinville.

Another significant result was the commitment of public authorities of Joinville. “The mayor himself told us that he will create a workgroup to follow up the Census and help whenever necessary - in the dissemination of the PSS, provision of data collection stations and in the operation itself,” celebrates Gomes.
