The first Planning and Follow-up Meeting of the 2020 Census (REPAC), aimed at optimizing the planning and operationalization of the data collection in Rio de Janeiro, was held in the afternoon of September 25 at the Auditorium of the Rio de Janeiro City Hall.

The event, which counted with 115 participants representing several secretariats and offices of the City Administration, was chaired by José Francisco Teixeira Carvalho, head of the UE-RJ, Rodrigo Cotrim, national coordinator of the REPACs, and Mauro Osório, president of the Pereira Passos Institute (IPP), who represented mayor Marcelo Crivella.

Mauro Osório from the IPP, the survey office of the municipality, was the first to speak, highlighting the importance of the IBGE and of the Census for his work, stating that “the IBGE is a decisive institution for Brazil.” He was followed by Rodrigo Cotrim, who explained the role of the REPACs, as well as outlined the schedule for the next meetings.

The head of the UE-RJ enhanced the explanation about the REPACs, highlighting how complex is the data collection in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro, with 2.6 million households and population estimated at more than 6.7 million inhabitants, who will be interviewed by 6,424 enumerators to be hired.

The meeting also included presentations of the technician Gabriel Barros on the work developed by the territorial base for the Census and of the technician Fellipe Tavares, introducing IBGEeduca and its specific activities that target the biggest survey carried out by the IBGE.

In the end of the meeting, the information exchange among the participants and the agreements to grant spaces for data collection stations proved the success of this communication channel with the society.
